PGT Window Replacement: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

If you’re searching for PGT window replacement in Fort Lauderdale, here’s the straight answer: we stock and install PGT-compatible replacement windows and components across most PGT series, with installed replacement typically running $450 to $1,100 per window depending on size, series, and glass package. Most replacements are completed the same day once we have your window on the truck, and we carry common PGT parts on our service vehicles for exactly this situation.

Call (904) 913-5886

Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners call us because a PGT window has lost its seal and turned milky white between the panes, or because the sash no longer glides and the tilt latches have started to strip. Sometimes it’s a failed impact laminate that delaminated after years of salt and UV exposure. The window frame might be fine, but the glass unit or hardware has given out, and PGT no longer services that older series directly. You don’t necessarily need a whole-house re-glaze. You need the right match for the window you already have.

Ed Winslow has handled plenty of these calls along Las Olas and throughout Fort Lauderdale. My name’s on the door, literally. That means it gets done right.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT built several Fort Lauderdale-familiar product lines over the years, and each uses slightly different glass packs, frame internals, and hardware. The most common series we service are:

  • WinGuard – PGT’s flagship impact line, found on thousands of Fort Lauderdale homes. Aluminum and vinyl variants exist, and the glass packs differ between the two. You cannot swap an aluminum WinGuard sash into a vinyl WinGuard frame.
  • Spectrum – PGT’s non-impact vinyl window, common on inland Fort Lauderdale homes built in the 2000s. Replacement glass is readily available, but the frame’s balance system is proprietary to PGT and not interchangeable with generic hardware-store parts.
  • ClassicVue – an older aluminum non-impact series. Many original ClassicVue units in Fort Lauderdale are now 25-plus years old, and the original glazing bead has often become brittle. Replacement glazing bead must be sourced to match the exact extrusion profile.

The way to identify your series is on the glass etch or the frame sticker, typically in the lower corner of the sash. Look for “PGT” followed by the series name and a manufacturing date code. If the sticker has faded from years of Fort Lauderdale sun, measure the visible glass and the frame thickness, and we can usually identify the series within a few minutes on the phone.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision: for glass packs, we strongly recommend OEM-equivalent impact glass that carries the same Miami-Dade NOA (Notice of Acceptance) rating as your original window. An aftermarket glass unit without the matching NOA can create an insurance or code compliance issue when you sell the home. For hardware like tilt latches, balances, and rollers, quality aftermarket equivalents from brands we stock often outlast the original PGT parts, particularly in coastal conditions.

One compatibility gotcha: PGT changed its balance shoe design on vinyl single-hungs around 2014. A 2013 balance and a 2015 balance are not interchangeable even if the window looks identical from the outside. We keep both versions on the truck.

We’re an independent Fort Lauderdale window replacement company, not a PGT corporate affiliate. That means we carry parts from several brands, including CGI, CWS, and ES Windows, so we can usually match or upgrade what you have without pushing you into a full replacement you don’t need.

Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Fog or haze between the glass panes. This means the insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed and moisture is getting inside. Fort Lauderdale’s humidity accelerates this once the seal starts to go, and the fog will never burn off.
  • Sash won’t stay up or is hard to lift. The balance system is worn out. PGT balances carry a specific weight rating based on the sash, and using the wrong one is a safety issue, so this is not a guess-and-check repair.
  • Tilt latches won’t engage. The latch springs and catches wear down over time, particularly on windows that get opened daily for Fort Lauderdale’s nine months of breeze. A stripped latch means the sash won’t lock into place when tilted or closed.
  • Visible lamination haze or wavy distortion in impact glass. Impact laminate can delaminate after a decade-plus of salt air and intense UV. The window still functions, but the visible distortion is a warning that the laminate is degrading.
  • Draft or water seepage at the frame corners. The original frame sealant or the glazing bead has failed. Water staining on the interior drywall below the window is a late-stage symptom.

If any of these sound familiar, the underlying issue is usually a single failed component, not the entire window assembly. That’s the difference between a repair and a replacement, and it’s where the honest answer saves you money.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, here’s what we tell people to expect for PGT window replacement, installed:

  • Glass-only replacement (insulated glass unit, non-impact): $180 to $420 per window
  • Impact glass replacement (WinGuard or equivalent, laminated): $350 to $800 per window depending on size
  • Full sash replacement (frame is fine, sash is tired): $400 to $750 per window
  • Complete window replacement (frame and sash, standard size): $600 to $1,100 per window
  • Hardware only (balances, tilt latches, rollers): $75 to $220 per window including labor

What drives the range: the window’s size, whether the glass is impact-rated, whether the frame itself is salvageable, and the specific PGT series. A three-foot-by-five-foot impact unit costs more than a small bathroom window, and that’s the honest math.

Every quote includes the part, the labor, removal and haul-away of the old unit, and our workmanship warranty. You get a written line-item quote before we start, and the price on that quote is the price you pay. Our 36500-Day Done Right Promise means if it’s not done right, Winslow makes it right, period. That’s a century-long standard, because we plan to be the company your kids call.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. What you can safely do yourself: inspect the glass etch to find your model series, take a photo of the window from inside and out, check for a frame sticker, and note whether the sash is vinyl or aluminum. That information helps us identify the right part before we arrive.

What you should not do yourself: remove a sash that is under spring tension, particularly on a large single-hung. PGT balance systems carry significant load, and when released improperly, they can move fast enough to break fingers or damage the frame. Do not attempt to seal a failed IGU with caulk or film. It won’t fix the seal, and it makes the eventual replacement harder.

If you’re comfortable removing a tilt-in sash, you can bring it to us for a direct parts match. Many customers do that. But if anything feels stuck or under load, call (904) 913-5886 and we’ll send a background-checked, uniformed tech who does this every week.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."

GGuadalupe Zamorano
★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."
