CGI Window Installation: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

CGI window installation in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $85 to $185 per window for the labor side when an existing CGI frame needs a proper reset or reseat, with most jobs finished same day after we confirm the model and part. We stock CGI-compatible hardware on the truck, so a failed window often gets corrected in a single visit. The way most Fort Lauderdale homeowners find out is specific: a window that no longer closes square against the seal, a crank that spins without moving the sash, or water staining on the drywall under a west-facing window after a summer squall. That’s usually not the glass. It’s the installation components around it – the balance, the hinge assembly, the weatherstripping channel, or the anchoring points that have worked loose over years of salt air and thermal flex. Ed Winslow has seen it enough times along the Las Olas corridor to know exactly where to look first.

One thing to know right away: Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent, locally owned company. We are not a CGI corporate installer, and we are not affiliated with the manufacturer. What we are is an authorized installer of CGI products who has spent 15 years putting their windows and doors into South Florida homes. That means we match the part to your frame correctly, not just “close enough.”

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI’s Fort Lauderdale presence falls mostly into three product families: the Sentinel series (their workhorse impact casement and single-hung lines), the Estate Collection (large fixed and custom geometric windows common in Las Olas and Rio Vista homes), and the Targa series (awning and picture windows used in mid-rise condos along Galt Ocean Mile and Harbor Beach). The installation components differ between them, and a balance cartridge from a Sentinel single-hung will not seat into an Estate Collection frame. That distinction is where a lot of generic installers get into trouble, and it’s why checking the part before the truck rolls matters.

The fastest way to identify what you have is the white product label on the inside of the frame, usually upper left on the sash or etched into the corner of the glass. It lists the series, the glass package (often “IGCC” for insulated impact or “LAMI” for laminated impact), and a manufacturing code we can run against CGI’s spec sheets. If that label is missing or caulked over, we measure the sash thickness, the balance shoe profile, and the hinge throw. On CGI specifically, the OEM hinge assemblies have a stamped part prefix that aftermarket generics often skip. The aftermarket stuff from the big-box supply aisle technically fits a range of frames, but the pivot pins wear faster in Fort Lauderdale’s humidity and the tolerances on the adjustment screw are looser. For a home 200 feet from the Intracoastal, we recommend the CGI-spec part every time. The savings on a generic hinge rarely survives one season of salt spray.

Signs Your CGI Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash drops when you open it or won’t stay up. That’s a failed balance system, either a worn spiral balance or a snapped block-and-tackle cord inside the jamb. On CGI single-hungs near the water, the cord sheathing hardens and the spring loses tension over five to seven years.
  • You hear a grinding or clicking when the window moves. Usually the hinge pivot pins or the operator gear teeth have corroded or stripped. Fort Lauderdale’s salt content accelerates this noticeably in oceanfront and Intracoastal-adjacent buildings.
  • Visible light or daylight around the sash when the window is closed and locked. The weatherstripping channel has compressed past its useful life, or the corner keys on the sash pulled apart, letting the frame relax out of square. This is also the entry point for wind-driven rain during tropical systems.
  • Condensation or haze between the insulated glass panes. The seal on the IGU has failed and the unit has lost its argon fill. On an impact-rated CGI window, the assembly still holds, but the energy performance drops hard – and if enough moisture builds, the coating starts to cloud.
  • The crank turns without stopping or spins freely. The operator assembly’s gear teeth have stripped, or the arm linkage disconnected from the sash bracket. It feels like a small nuisance, but it means the window isn’t seating under compression, which defeats the pressure rating that makes CGI windows impact-rated in the first place.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most CGI window installation component replacements in Fort Lauderdale land between $175 and $490 installed, depending on what failed and how many assemblies we’re touching. A single balance cartridge runs on the lower end. A full hinge replacement on a large Estate Collection casement, or paired balance replacements on a heavy laminated sash, sits at the higher end. What drives the larger number is almost always sash weight – laminated impact glass is heavy, and the heavier the sash, the more robust the balance system needs to be, and the longer the calibration takes to get the opening speed right.

Every quote is a written line-item price before we start. You see the part cost, the labor, and the disposal fee if we’re pulling old hardware. There’s no trip charge inside our home county, and we don’t treat the price as a starting offer. The work carries our labor warranty, and because we’re an authorized CGI installer in Fort Lauderdale, the OEM parts we install retain their manufacturer coverage. If anything about the installation isn’t correct, our 36500-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right. That’s not a limited offer. It’s just the standard we’ve worked under since 2011.

DIY or Call Us?

There are honest checks you can do on your own. Open the window halfway and look at the balance channel inside the jamb – if you see a broken cord, a dislodged shoe, or rust staining below the spring, that’s the diagnosis. Pop the screen off and check for water marks on the inner frame track, which tells us whether the weep holes are clogged alongside whatever else is failing. What we don’t recommend is pulling a loaded balance cartridge or a tensioned hinge assembly yourself. The spring inside a CGI balance runs under real tension, and when a homeowner releases it the wrong way, it can take a chunk of drywall and a knuckle with it. It’s also easy to cross-thread the hinge pin into the frame channel, and then you’re buying a new frame section rather than a new hinge. The safer move is to call us at (904) 913-5886 while it’s still a diagnosis and not a cleanup. Estimates are free, and if it turns out to be a simple fix, we’ll tell you that on the phone before scheduling anything.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."

GGuadalupe Zamorano
★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."
