ViewLux Sliding & Patio Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If your ViewLux sliding or patio door is sticking, sagging, or letting daylight through where it shouldn’t, we stock the rollers, handles, locks, tracks, and weatherstripping to fix it – and we install them. Depending on the part and your door’s series, most Fort Lauderdale ViewLux repairs run between $185 and $520 installed, with the work done same visit in most cases. Owners usually find us after the door starts grinding across the track or refusing to latch, which is how these failures announce themselves: slowly, then all at once.
Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with ViewLux, but we’ve worked on enough of their doors along the coast to know exactly which parts match which series – and which ones don’t.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To
ViewLux builds sliding glass doors across a few distinct series lines, and the parts are not universally interchangeable. The Series 600 and Series 800 sliding doors use different roller assemblies than the heavier multi-panel units. The most common compatibility gotcha we see in Fort Lauderdale is this: a homeowner orders a generic roller online, it fits the housing but not the track profile, and the door rides rough until the roller wheel shatters.
To identify your door, look for the white or silver label on the top or bottom rail of the sliding panel. It will list the series number and sometimes a manufacturing date. If the label is gone, measure the width of the track channel and the diameter of the existing roller wheel. Bring us those numbers, and we’ll match the part before we ever put a tool on the door.
For ViewLux doors out of production – and there are a few older models floating around Fort Lauderdale condos – we source OEM parts through our supplier network when available. When OEM is discontinued, we’ll tell you straight. In many cases, a quality aftermarket roller or handle from a manufacturer like Prime-Line will perform as well as the original, and we’ll show you the difference before you pay for it.
Signs Your ViewLux Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
- Grinding or dragging across the track. The roller bearings have worn or the wheels are flat-spotted. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, steel bearings rust faster than you’d think, especially if the door faces east and catches morning condensation.
- Door lifts up when you push it. The roller assembly is loose or the track is worn. You shouldn’t be able to rock the panel vertically. That slop is what eventually bends the track and turns a $200 repair into a $600 one.
- Handle flops or won’t retract the latch. The internal spring mechanism inside ViewLux handles is a small stamped part. Salt air along Las Olas and the barrier islands corrodes it. Once the spring snaps, the handle feels dead in your hand.
- Drafts or visible daylight at the top or bottom seam. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. ViewLux uses a fin-seal design that deteriorates under UV exposure and loses its spring-back after about 6 to 8 years in direct south Florida sun.
- Lock won’t fully engage or pops out of the keeper. The door has settled, or the keeper plate has shifted. On a ViewLux, this is often the first sign the rollers underneath have worn down unevenly, changing the door’s height at the lock point.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For Fort Lauderdale ViewLux sliding doors, here’s what we typically see:
- Roller assembly replacement (both rollers on one panel): $185 to $320 installed, depending on whether we’re using standard steel or upgraded stainless bearings.
- Handle and latch replacement: $145 to $260 installed, including a new interior and exterior pull.
- Weatherstripping replacement (full perimeter): $120 to $220 installed.
- Track repair or replacement: $280 to $520 installed, depending on track length and whether the old track needs grinding or full extraction.
Every quote includes the part, labor, cleanup, and a check of the door’s alignment and lock engagement before we leave. There’s no trip charge inside our home county, and we’ll show you the line-item price before any work starts. If you get a written estimate from another company, bring it to us – we’ll give you a free second opinion.
DIY or Call Us?
Sliding door rollers are not a high-tension danger like a garage spring, but this is also not a job to guess through. The door panel on a ViewLux slider weighs between 80 and 180 pounds, and pulling it off the track without the right lift angle will gouge the track or crack the glass. We’ve repaired more than one DIY attempt where the homeowner saved $90 on labor and then spent $400 replacing a shattered panel.
What you can do safely: clean the track with a dry brush, check for obvious debris, and note where the door binds. That information helps us diagnose faster when you call. But for roller swaps, track work, and lock replacement, call us at (904) 913-5886. We’ll bring the right part the first time.
FAQs
Rollers typically last 7 to 10 years in Fort Lauderdale’s salt and humidity environment; handles last 8 to 12 years; weatherstripping needs replacement every 5 to 8 years. Condos directly on the beach see the shorter end of those ranges. Call (904) 913-5886 and we can assess what your specific door needs.
Sometimes, yes. A sticking door with intact rollers often just needs track cleaning and roller height adjustment. We’ll always tell you if a part has life left in it before we sell you a new one. Call (904) 913-5886 for an honest evaluation.
Most single-panel roller or handle replacements take 45 to 90 minutes on site. Track replacement or multi-panel work can take 2 to 3 hours. We’ll give you a firm time estimate before we start.
We keep common ViewLux rollers, handles, and weatherstripping on our trucks for the most frequent series we service in Fort Lauderdale. For less common models, we source from our supplier network and typically have the part within 2 to 3 business days. We’ll tell you before we schedule the work.
Ed Winslow has been putting his name on window and door work across South Florida since 2011, and he’s seen what salt air does to a sliding door track. If your ViewLux is acting up, call (904) 913-5886 and we’ll get it sliding right again. The one down the road.
