CWS Window Replacement: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CWS-compatible window sashes, insulated glass units (IGUs), balances, rollers, and hardware, with most replacements running between $285 and $680 per window installed in Fort Lauderdale depending on the series and glass package. Most single-window swaps are completed the same visit once we confirm the model and glass specs. The usual discovery goes like this: a window that once glided open now sticks or drops, condensation fogs the glass from the inside, or a bedroom window suddenly won’t latch and lock against the humidity and street noise of a Fort Lauderdale evening.

Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent installer and parts supplier, not a CWS corporate entity. That means we can match your window without pushing you into a full-frame replacement you may not need.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS windows line a lot of condos and single-family homes across Fort Lauderdale, particularly along the barrier island, Victoria Park, and the neighborhoods off Las Olas where impact-rated aluminum frames have been the standard for years. The most common series we service are the CWS 9000 and 9500 single-hung and horizontal roller lines, plus a smaller number of casement and fixed picture units from the same era.

Here’s what matters when matching a part. Every CWS frame carries a small aluminum label sticker, typically on the top or side jamb, with the series number, glass thickness, and a date code. Get a photo of that label before you order anything. If the label is gone or faded, we measure the visible glass area and the frame depth, because the 9000 and 9500 series share some hardware but absolutely do not share glass packages. Mixing a 5/16-inch laminate from a 9000 into a 9500 frame built for 7/16-inch glass will leave you with a loose, rattling window and a voided impact rating. That compatibility gotcha alone is why we never quote CWS glass blind.

For hardware like balances and rollers, quality aftermarket parts are usually fine and cost less than OEM, but we will not use them on impact windows that still carry an active certification. On those, OEM or exact-spec equivalents are the only honest choice for a Fort Lauderdale home in a wind-borne debris zone.

Signs Your CWS Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Condensation between the panes. The desiccant inside the spacer has saturated and the IGU seal has failed. On a CWS impact unit, the glass is still structurally sound, but the thermal performance is gone and the view never clears. This is the single most common call we get from Fort Lauderdale condos near the water.
  • The sash drops when you let go. The block-and-tackle balance inside the jamb has snapped or the spring has lost tension. It starts as a hard-to-open window and becomes a window that will not stay up at all. Replacing the balance before the frame gets scored saves you a bigger repair later.
  • You have to lift and shove to open it. Rollers on a CWS horizontal slider wear flat on the bottom over time, especially with sand and salt grit from Fort Lauderdale beachside air working into the track. The window grinds instead of glides. New rollers and a track cleaning usually solve it.
  • The lock no longer lines up. Years of use and slight frame settling in humid soil shifts the strike plate or the lock mechanism. You should not ignore a misaligned lock on a ground-floor Fort Lauderdale window, since it is both a security and an insurance concern.
  • Visible corrosion on the frame or hardware. CWS aluminum holds up well, but salt air on a canal-front or oceanfront property accelerates corrosion on unprotected hardware. Once the weep holes clog and water pools in the track, the corrosion spreads faster. Catching it early keeps the window serviceable.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, expect a CWS window sash or IGU replacement to run between $285 and $680 installed, depending on glass package, series, and whether the frame needs hardware work. A standard non-impact CWS IGU starts around $285 on the low end. A laminated impact-rated IGU, which most CWS windows on the east side of Federal Highway are, lands closer to $420 to $680 once you factor the heavy glass and the handling it demands.

Every quote we give includes the part, all installation labor, disposal of the old sash or glass, and a written line-item breakdown so you see exactly what you are paying for. We do not quote a low number and then pad the invoice with change orders once the window is open. The 36500-Day Done Right Promise covers every CWS replacement we install: if it is not done right, we come back and make it right, for as long as you own the home.

The $40 off any repair over $200 applies here, and the senior and veteran 10% discount stacks on top. If you have a written estimate from another Fort Lauderdale contractor, bring it in and we will give you a free second opinion on it.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do: clean the tracks, confirm the model label, take photos of the glass thickness from the edge, and check whether the weep holes are clogged. Those are legitimate homeowner tasks and they help us give you a faster, more accurate quote over the phone.

Where it goes wrong: handling a laminated impact IGU. These panels weigh forty to sixty pounds and were never designed to be horsed into a frame by one person on a ladder. Get the angle slightly wrong and you will chip the edge, crack the laminate, or hurt yourself. Fixing a CWS block-and-tackle balance also means working inside a tensioned channel, and that is not the place to learn from a YouTube video. We would rather give you an honest price than see you bleed on a window track.

Call (904) 913-5886 and we will talk you through what you are seeing, no charge for the conversation and no trip charge if you are in Broward County.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."

GGuadalupe Zamorano
★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."
